Both the city and the river were named when it was first settled in 1832 after Stratford-upon-Avon, England of Shakespearean fame. Stratford has an interesting history, mixing its rural heritage as a farm community with its more recent history as a cultural and heritage centre. Stratford is blessed with fine, wide streets in its downtown shopping area, many of the buildings still retain the quaint, Victorian charm of yesteryear. Stratford has a unique mix of urban amenities, including fine dining, day spas, and unique little inns, tucked throughout the town. The annual Shakespearean Festival now brings hundreds of thousands of theatre goers and tourists to the area. Celebrities such as Alec Guinness, Christopher Plummer and William Shatner have performed at the world renowned festival taking place in four theatres throughout the city; the Festival Theatre, Avon Theatre, Tom Patterson Theatre and the Studio Theatre. We were treated like family by the staff/Owners and recognized each visit even though we only came once a year. The rooms are quaint, well kept, bright and cheery. Even the pull out beds are comfy. It is located right in the middle of the theatres allowing you to park your car and forget it! Book early!" "I have stayed at the Queen's Inn for five years as part of an annual tour to the Stratford Festival. It has been wonderful. Barbara is a fantastic hostess and takes great care to make everyone feel at home. The Inn itself has a special charm and I would highly recommend it. I look forward to staying there again." |

"We spent 1 night at the Queens Inn during our 2 week Canadian holiday and we received excellent service from the moment we walked through the door ... The lady on the desk was fantastic and soon calmed us down, giving us a lovely room as well as knocking $40 off it. The room was decorated in a very old fashioned way but it was quaint and everything was clean. The room had all facilities and was very large - with two king size beds and several sofas! The car park is free and right outside the hotel so that's a plus point. We had a drink in the pub, which is attached to the hotel, and that was a bit too crowded for us but is obviously very popular. We had dinner at an Italian restaurant a short walk down the street - pizza in a basement! It was wonderful - best pizza I've had for a while. The hotel did not do breakfast as it was their off season but the restaurant next door - Features - is amazing and will fill you up for the rest of the day! Great value too." |
